Farm Story
This coffee comes from Bette Buna (“House of Coffee”), an Ethiopian exporter working closely with smallholder farming communities across southern Ethiopia. One of the communities contributing to this lot is Taferi Kela in Sidamo, where farmers cultivate coffee on small plots and focus on careful harvesting of ripe cherries. Bette Buna supports these communities through training in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, and post-harvest practices, helping improve both coffee quality and long-term farm resilience. The organization also operates a nursery that distributes climate-adapted seedlings each year, supporting the renewal of coffee farms throughout the region. In more remote areas, Bette Buna emphasizes farmer training and home processing, encouraging producers to harvest and dry their coffee at home using a range of natural drying techniques, from drying on the ground to using plastic sheets or raised beds. This lot is a blended selection from farmers who have excelled at home natural processing. After drying, the coffee is milled locally and then transported to Bette Buna’s dry mill near Addis Ababa for final cleaning, density and size screening, and color sorting prior to export.
