Farm Story

Bolivia Caranavi Aljiri comes from 19 smallholder producers in the community of Collasuyo, located in the Yungas region of La Paz, widely considered the heart of Bolivia’s growing specialty coffee sector. While coffee has been cultivated in Bolivia for hundreds of years, a new generation of producers is helping elevate the country’s reputation through a renewed focus on quality, supported by increased investment and resources throughout the coffee industry. Many farms in the Yungas were established following migration to the region during Bolivia’s Agrarian Revolution in the 1950s, and today the area is producing some of the country’s most exciting coffees.
During harvest, cherries are carefully hand-picked, sorted, and floated to remove damaged and less dense fruit before being depulped, fermented, washed, and dried at micro-mills located on each farm. The producers are members of the Aljiri cooperative in Caranavi, which supports smallholder farmers through infrastructure investments, warehousing, export preparation, quality control, technical assistance, and certification support. This coordinated approach helps ensure traceability, consistency, and quality while highlighting the unique character and potential of Bolivian specialty coffee.
